Basis circuitry and functions same as CTA405 from 2005.

With the introduction of the new Tung-Sol KT120 tube from 2010 many owners of tube amplifiers wanted to explore the abilities of this new member to the original 6550/KT88 family of power tubes.

Although the original Copland CTA405 from 2005 could accommodate the KT120 directly, the extended height and heat radiation from the KT120 made a few adjustments to the original design preferable.

A 90 mm. FAN running at low speed was installed inside the amplifier. To prevent vibrations into the chassis the low noise fan was mounted with shock absorbers on a plate made from machined aluminium. Furthermore, a new power transformer matching the extended heater current and potential anode current of the KT120 tubes was installed. As a way of recognizing the A-type amplifier a reed power button was mounted.

The original CTA405 amplifier remained in production along with the new A-type. The classis 6550 tube set-up has a magnificent sound of its own still preferred by many.

From serial no: 4051000 and forward all CTA405 classic amplifiers uses the same transformer as the A-types amplifiers.
